The Walking Dead #98 Review (contains major spoilers)

As The Walking Dead inches closer to issue #100, there's a definite sense that something horrific is brewing. Last time the series reached a big milestone issue, half the cast were slaughtered in a battle with the Governor's forces. The situation in Something to Fear isn't that different at the moment. The current cast face imminent war with another pocket of hostile survivors, and that war comes one step closer to reality in issue #98.

The issue starts out quietly enough, with a fun little exchange between Abraham and Eugene about Rosita but it isn't long before events start. This issue contains the first truly shocking moment the series has seen since Carl was shot in the head last year. We see Abraham take an arrow through the head while still being able to finish off his final words before he dies, a real big loss Abraham was a great character.

We then see these new enemies for the Alexandria safe-zone are a real threat maybe even bigger than The Governor only time can tell what will happen. In any case, the issue never lets up once this event happens. This is easily one of the more exciting installments of Walking Dead in a long time as we see huge events which will change The Walking Dead forever.

Charlie Adlard's did a really good job this issue with the artwork it seemed a  bit more refined and detailed than it has been in recent issues.

Issue #98 succeeds mainly in how well it blends the various Walking Dead elements. Though unusually action-heavy, there are a few character-centric scenes to balance things out. And it certainly succeeds in building tension and paving the way for what should be an eventful issue #100.

9/10 fantastic issue!
