'The Walking Dead': Exclusive first look at Danai Gurira as fan favorite Michonne

Ever since we saw that cloaked figure brandishing a katana sword while accompanied by two chained up armless zombies in The Walking Dead’s season 2 finale, fans have been salivating for a first look at the woman under the hood — Michonne. That first look is now here. A fan favorite from The Walking Dead comic book on which the AMC series is based, Michonne will be played by actress Danai Gurira (Treme) when the show returns for season 3 this October, and here is your exclusive first taste of what she will look like.

In the comics, Michonne is an unflinching warrior who proves to be powerful ally for Rick Grimes and the rest of the survivors. But how different will the onscreen version be? “The essence of the character — her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne Michonne — remains intact from the comics,” says Robert Kirkman (the creator of the comic and executive producer of the TV adaptation). “But like a lot of things on the show, there will be little tweaks and differences here and there. We saw that her introduction is slightly different from how it was in the comic, and her interaction with Andrea is really going to be a really cool addition to the character that I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they’ll get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did.”
As for why they cast the relatively unknown Danai Gurira for the pivotal role, Kirkman says, “We looked at a lot of talented people that were really fantastic, but we were waiting for that one spark, that moment where everyone was completely in agreement and completely excited, and we felt like we had found the essence of this fictional character that just randomly appeared in another person, and that person was Danai Gurira. She kind of came in and really just blew us all away. She’s got incredible presence, and she’s got a theater background, and is very physical, and was just perfect for the role.”
Kirkman is equally enthusiastic about the big location setting for season 3, as Rick and company attempt to turn a prison into their new zombie-proof fortress. “It looks absolutely amazing,” gushes Kirkman. “They are shooting the hell out of this prison. It just looks absolutely stunning, and I think when people start seeing trailers and stuff for this season, I think people are just gonna be like, “Wait, what? This is what? I can’t believe this is a TV show!” It’s really creepy, really moody and it’s just gonna be really awesome.”

Blog Request: Design Your Own Walking Dead Character

This is a really interesting blog post, I would create maybe a psycho badass bad guy or maybe even a good guy he could be interesting on both. The idea is a character who pretty much carves a smiley face into his skin everytime he kills a zombie so as you imagine he may be covered in these smiley faces. Heres the fun part though he also carves sad faces into his skin for every human he has killed he could fit into a group of killers pretty well I guess you could say being like this, but maybe he would fit into a group like Rick well as a new badass of the group.

Thats it really do tell me if you liked my character or if you thought he was a terrible idea feel free to share this blog to other fans to help spread the word!

The Walking Dead Season 1 Recap: Episode 1 - Days Gone Bye

I'm a huge fan of the comic book, so to see this get made into a T.V show I was really excited. Thinking back this episode is my second favourite episode first being Beside The Dying Fire the finale for season 2 which is going to be really hard to top. Episode 1 almost seemed like it was a movie it was really well directed by Frank Darabont and we got a spectacular shot of a birds eye view above the tank Rick enters which may be the best shot or at least near the top that we have ever seen in The Walking Dead.

This episode unlike many other episodes keeps reasonably close to the comic apart from the opening and the tank scene at the end. I thought this episode was really good at drawing me into the show even thought maybe it was'nt as hard to get me to watch since I was already a small fan of the comic but after this I bought a lot more of the comic.

When I saw Rick in this episode I knew he would be perfect for the role and he really played the "shocked" character well and it is interesting to see that he has evolved a huge amount since this episode.

I would by far give this episode a 10/10 due to being up with the best off this show so far and no real complaint can be made about this episode.

The Walking Dead proves popular with gamers

More than one million episodes of The Walking Dead have been sold to gamers so far, it has been confirmed.

The game series has been developed by Telltale Games and award winning writer Robert Kirkman. Episode one has attracted glowing reviews since its launch, with Official Xbox Magazine, PC Gamer and IGN.com among the commentators rating it highly.
Dan Connors, chief executive of Telltale Games, commented: "The tailored narrative design puts gamers in control of their own story within the universe of The Walking Dead in a way that appeals equally to hardcore gamers and to more casual gamers who are fans of the franchise."

He promised aficionados of the series that the next set of episodes will allow them to enjoy "some really great moments".

Mr Connors added that garnering a record audience across so many different platforms has been a "tremendous achievement".

Episode one, which is named A New Day, will be followed by a second instalment next month – Starved for Help.

How The Daryl And Merle Confrontation Should Go In Season 3

I think this is the most interesting thing or at least in the top 5 things that I want to see in season 3 or maybe season 4 if they decide to hold it back that long. The reason is that we know Daryl was pissed that they left Merle on that roof but now Daryl has managed to become part of this group and be liked by its members due to how much of an asset he actually is to the group. Will he still be loyal though if his brother comes back? I think so I really don't think he will turn his back on Rick's group and I think it will be Daryl who kills Merle in the end.

Little extra this week for the Daryl fans here is a video from  really cool Daryl video.

Kirkman and Skybound Announce "The Walking Dead Escape: San Diego"

It takes a very special kind of person to not only appreciate a narrative about apocalypse-by-zombie but also to actually want to take part in that apocalypse. And soon there will be an event for those fans that lets them play a role in the simulated downfall of civilization or, if they wish, contribute to it.
Kirkman and Skybound have announced their first ever event, "The Walking Dead Escape: San Diego," which is described as "unlike any obstacle course event in the U.S." The post-apocalyptic event will expand on "The Walking Dead" comic book series, allowing both Survivors and Walkers to explore the initial days of the zombie apocalypse. To that end, Skybound is turning Petco Park into a full-out representation of the earliest days of the undead uprising.

For more information or to register for this event, please visit www.thewalkingdeadescape.com or www.Skybound.com.

Walking Dead Season 2 Best Bits - Dales Death

At first I admit I wasnt not a fan of this death, but after a second watch I did kinda enjoy it and accept it more. This death was the only death I genuinly was shocked at I remember just sitting after and thinking "They just killed Dale" This was the only death I did not expect happening I read up a lot on The Walking Dead so I kinda predicted what would happen not here though.

I maybe thought the reason I did not enjoy it was I did not really enjoy this episode as much as the others due to the direction of Carl's character. This maybe brought down my thoughts on the death, I wish Dale didn't die but thats how this show works nobody is safe.

Why Everyone Loves Daryl

Daryl is probably the majority of peoples fan favourite and he deserves it, by far he is the greatest edition to the show. Norman also is amazing in this role, since I have been a fan of his for years I was pleased to see him in this show.
His best moment for me was the whole seen in which he beats up Randall and Randall tells him about the girls and the look Daryl gives Randall was really great in this scene. Norman before has stated if I remember "I made a career out of dirty looks" boy was he right he gives a real mean look.

People love him for one real simple reason hes a BADASS and I feel maybe also in season 2 he also showed a softer side which people I think liked.

I can not wait to see what he will do in season 3 and I think this next season will be special for him.

Feel free to follow my blog and share it to help my blog grow thanks again!

Will Fans Ever Love Carl?

Fans really do hate Carl why? He does some real stupid things, 2 things come to my mind straight away. Causing Dales death which really angered the fans and him running off all the time and causing mischief leaving the rest of the group to clean up the mess he leaves behind.

I think if they go down the same route as the comic in which Carl becomes more of a badass character I think fans may start to like him more. I just hope they will not make him look even more stupid than he is at this current time.

Carl its for the fans!!!

Robert Kirkman Talks Walking Dead Issue 100

On what to prepare for when it comes to issue 100: I can say that everybody knows that there's this group out there called the Saviors that are kind of intimidating everyone on the Hilltop. They've kind of gotten on Rick's radar, we [saw] their first interaction in #97. We've basically got another very violent, dangerous group out there that Rick is going to be clashing with head-on and I can say that issue #100 is going to easily be the most gruesome, most violent, disturbing issue of "The Walking Dead" yet. So, be on the look out yet. When I say that, I do remember all of the gruesome, disturbing and violent things that have happened in "The Walking Dead" thus far, so I promise I mean it.

The Walking Dead Season 3 - New Character - Harold? Dale's Replacement?

The Walking Dead's third season doesn't air until the fall, but some spoilers about what's coming up have been released to tease fans. According to E! Online, the group is going to run into Harold, who "is 'a studious and fastidious man' trying to carve out a postapocalyptic niche for himself. Sounds like he could be a model 'prisoner'!"  I hope that this "Harold" is a big edition to the T.V show as we have seen characters added to the show that are not fearured in the comic become quite big parts for example TDog ( I know he never gets any lines but I still love him!) It will be interesting to see where they go with this character if these rumours are true.

L.A. Noir Signs More Walking Dead Cast

Even though this is not The Walking Dead news it is still interesting to the fans as some fan favourites are coming to L.A. Noir.
According to a very reliable source -- the Twitter account of actor Andrew Rothenberg -- both he and another "Walking Dead" alum -- Jeffrey DeMunn -- have signed on to roles in Frank Darabont's new TNT pilot, "L.A. Noir."

They'll be joining yet another "TWD" actor -- Jon Bernthal, who plays one of the leads in the drama.

DeMunn, whose "Walking Dead" character was gutted by zombies at the end of Season 2, will play Hal Morrison, a detective heading up an LAPD mob squad. Rothernberg, who was a Season 1 casualty on "The Walking Dead" will guest-star as Eddy Sanderson, a member of the squad, reports TV Guide.

Rothenberg first shared the news on Monday, tweeting, "Get ready Walking Dead fans, I'll be working with Frank Darabont, Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey DeMunn on LA NOIR, a pilot for TNT!"

Interview with Robert Kirkman

On Monday (May 7), production for Season 3 of "The Walking Dead" officially kicked off in Georgia and, to mark the event, AMC posted some juicy details from comic book creator turned executive producer Robert Kirkman, who is on set in Senoia, Ga.

Here are a few highlights from the interview, which you can read in full at amctv.com.

Q: The room in the prison with all the guns and the SWAT gear in the comic is really cool. Is that going to come up on the show?

A: We're a big fan of the SWAT gear here at The Walking Dead writer's room... maybe that's an indication that we'll be seeing that stuff in the show.

Q: With the evil Governor in the picture, does that mean the humans are the bigger threat this season?

A: The plan was always to evolve naturally into a place were the zombies essentially become a manageable threat. You know the rules. You know how to deal with them. To a certain extent they become something to not really be scared of unless you mess up. Humans, however, do not follow any rules and will always do something that surprises you and are capable of doing things far worse than trying to eat you...We're definitely going to be seeing a lot of horrible things.

Q: How are Danai Gurira's sword skills shaping up?

A: There's been quite a bit of sword training going on and [Danai] is doing an amazing job. She's going to be do all of the hard character stuff and drama that The Walking Dead is known for, but she has tremendous physical capability and the sword training that I've seen is absolutely amazing. I can't wait to see her hack up some zombies.

Q: This season has got so many exciting story lines...

A: When you think about The Walking Dead comic series, you think about oh, the stuff they with did the Governor, the stuff they did with the prison and Woodbury and Michonne. And that's really a lot of the stuff that people remember the story for and that's stuff we haven't even gotten to in the TV show yet. So as much as people love the show, and as high as the ratings are, and as cool as the show is, I feel like we haven't even gotten to the good stuff yet. This season is absolutely going to blow people away.

Walking Dead Comic Dominating

Continuing its domination of the graphic novel sales in bookstores, The Walking Dead laid claim to seven of the Top 10 spots on BookScan’s April chart. The series, by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard, took the first four positions. What’s more, 12 of the Top 20 graphic novels were volumes of The Walking Dead

Robert Kirkman talk about Danai Gurira as Michonne

The most anticipated newcomer of the bunch is Michonne, the sword-wielding zombie killer introduced in the season-two finale. Danai Gurira plays the role in season three, and Kirkman said she has a lot of hard work ahead of her."Danai is an absolutely fantastic actress," he said. "That role is going to be absolutely grueling. It'll put her through her paces. She'll have to do a lot of sword work. I can't say a lot about what she's going to do, but everyone who has read the comic knows Michonne is a badass. We'll see a lot of that in the show as well. Danai has really been diving into that head first with lots of sword training. We begin filming next week, so we'll be working with her a lot, and we're excited to have her on board."
